“My practice is in itself a shifting puzzle, at times a raucous family affair with contributions from two lovely boys and a wonderful partner. At other moments it is a quiet distillation of material, and the contemplation and placement of forms to create sculptural works.
Elementally this body of work is derivative of singular cellular forms and their varying structures. The intrinsic complexity of growth and natural forms is a vast field from which I draw inspiration. I am working with repetitive blown glass forms and stainless steel in order to create wall panels and larger sculptural forms. Basic components are amassed to become multifarious formations. Subtle shifts and individual differences inform the placement of the forms. The intention is to create an ambiguous floating feel within the structures.
In these pieces the repetitive composition addresses a broad confluence of interests and philosophies. Shifting technologies and expanding scientific understanding, (also microscopic and macroscopic imaging), expose beautiful and at times random interconnectivity. This theme of interconnectivity is central to my practice. So too is the plasticity of the molten glass itself. It is its material memory and the intrinsic fluidity of the matter whilst blowing which also informs the components I employ.”
