"My work is the result of processing thoughts and feelings. The dynamics of relationship and the juxtaposition of opposites interest me. I intend to evoke an emotional response by using simple shapes and patterns that reflect my visceral and intuitive feelings." Carmen layers course frit and powdered glass to build up a three dimensional surface. The colored, ground glass is arranged on 4ml sheet glass, starting with a coarse frit and finishing with powdered glass. Each piece is fired in the kiln up to five times, as Vetter builds more depth, texture and color into each layer of glass powder. Vetter's patterns are often repetitive and spellbinding and encourage a contemplative mood.
